Lesson 6
Hello!
This series of lessons is learning about lots of different things, as well as comparing our lives with Jesus'. What we are learning about this week is about the next holiday: Valentines Day!
When you think of Valentines Day, what do you think of? Maybe you think of candy? Or your friends? Mabye you think of hearts, or xoxo. But that stuff is not true love.
If thats not true love, then what is true love?
True love is sacrifice. True love is not candy hearts or balloons. True love is beautiful.
Did Jesus celebrate Valentines Day? Nope. Valentines Day was made a holiday loooonng after Jesus was even born. Jesus certainly experienced love. but he did not celebrate Valentines Day.
Does the Bible talk about love? Yes, the Bible talks a lot about love. Here are a few Bible verses that mention love.
John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
That is so true. Jesus loves us so much that he died on the cross for our sins, but thats a different story:)
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Love is patient, love is kind. it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Wow! Thats a lot of qualifications for love! but listen too this. If you just focus on loving, you meet all of these qualifications! how cool is that!
We will be learning about Valentines Day for the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
